~ Sewing Circles ~
A friend made some felt puppets for Nicolas for Christmas (pattern here). He loves them and I was so impressed with her dexterous use of her sewing machine that I decided to try a felt project of my own.
Working on this set of felt food (a birthday gift for one of Nicolas' little friends) was everything I had hoped handmade giving could be. I looked forward to each sewing session; there was calm, there was joy, and, above all, it was good old fashioned fun.
Though it turns out I can't sew in a circle to save my life. Witness the egg on the left. And those blueberries! They had me cursing my decision to edge-stitch all the pieces. A joyful, calm sort of cursing.
But practice makes perfect. Practice and a lot of pins.
Sewing large circles is definitely easier than edge-stitching blueberries. Finding the proper-sized templates was a challenge. I needed an 8" circle and a 9.5" circle for this part of the gift. I measured every circular item we own it seemed: all four plate sizes, cereal bowls, mixing bowls, pie plates, plant pots, even trivets. I was about to settle for 7" and 10" when I noticed the pile of dirty dishes on the counter. A 8" colander for the smaller circle and the 9.5" stock-pot lid for the larger, hurrah!
Circles in place, I made these buckets from maya*made to hold the felt food.
I chose a kitchen-themed fabric for the lining.
Filled them with the felt food and a few empty containers I had been saving just for this, and there you have it. Made for you.
This is beyond adorable! Wow! You rock! =)
